KAT CONVERTS BARN WITH KAWNEER

Since KAT joined forces with Kawneer in the UK, the doors and windows manufacturer is providing a sophisticated and unrivalled range of aluminium products to the domestic and commercial markets. The Kawneer collection has re-set the aluminium systems standard for weather resistance and thermal performance within the most stylish slimline profile designs.

Products include tilt turn windows with hidden sash feature, casement windows, bi-fold doors, in-line patio doors, French doors and lift and slide patio doors, all available in KAT’s three stock colours on a two-week lead time.

Recently installed at a converted stable, KAT’s Lift and Slide doors have transformed the original outbuilding of a farmhouse in rural Gloucestershire.

When Ian Jones and his family moved into the farmhouse, he decided to convert the stable in his garden into a homeworking office for his marketing business. To maximise the natural light entering the space, as well as making the most of the countryside view from his desk, Ian considered glazing the entire length of one side of the stable.

            

KAT’s Kawneer range offered several options, with its bi-folds, in-line and lift and slide doors. All products could have been manufactured to the exact dimensions all with contemporary frames, whilst providing excellent thermal and sound performance to ensure a comfortable working environment.

Ian would have required a five-pane bi-folding door to fit the length of the office conversion, which would have stacked up on either the inside or outside wall to create an office space that extends out into the garden. For less fine weather days, the traffic door would enable just one panel to open for quick access.

However, Ian opted for Lift and Slide doors, commenting: “There were numerous benefits to the Lift and Slide doors, with their incredibly slim sashes, their light operation and the fact that no space was needed for the stack of five folded panels on a bi-folding door equivalent.”

The Kawneer range is made to order and these doors were superbly manufactured to fit the 5.5metre x 2metre high opening in the stable.

Available in KAT’s huge range of RAL colours as well as a brand new textured finish, Slate Grey, Ian chose the latter for its durable, matt finish.

He continued: “The Slate Grey finish complemented the style of the building and our farmhouse home, adding a contemporary industrial twist. The fact it is scratch resistant and wear resistant was also an advantage, with the building in an exposed site, facing the countryside and weather.”

The overall look is incredible, the doors allow so much light in, which is essential for my working space and wellbeing. The lift and slide doors have numerous benefits from style to performance to space saving. They are extremely substantial and secure doors yet glide open easily.”
